Good grief people. Do you actually think racing is the cause of the oil crisis?? The cause is supply and demand. Funny how when I watched the gas prices shoot up I saw less people taking their giant SUVs out. And guess what happened? The prices came DOWN!!! People dont want trucks anymore and the prices are coming down. It's amazing how that works.

Less fuel is used in a NASCAR race than in Al Gore's private plane. Shut down Al Gore instead.

LaCajunDJ says, "Even though I'm a race fan....they need to shut down ALL racing during this time of oil crisis!"
I think it is important to note that racing, at the professional level (ie, not the local track where the backyard hot rodders take their cars to see who has the most getupandgofast,) is a huge BUSINESS that employs a LOT of PEOPLE who depend on that WORK to earn a living. It's not just a game for the NASCAR, NHRA, IHRA, IRL, USAC, SCCA, etc, etc. It's Business (yes, with a capital "B") and it's the livelihood for thousands of people in the USA. To arbitrarily shut them down would cause vast economic hardship for a lot of hard working folks who need their jobs as much as you or I or any of the rest of us.
I would hate to see all those car owners and drivers and mechanics and pit crew members and track workers and so on suddenly forced to go on welfare because their jobs were suddenly lost. Not to mention all the TV commentators and crews who cover the races so those of us who can't get to (or can't afford to get to) the tracks can still see the action and be entertained by it.
It's sport, but it is also BIG BUSINESS. Not quite the same as saying let's cancel the Little League season this year because we can't afford to take the kids to the ballpark.

The measure of utility received for the expenditure incurred must still be in proper balance. Otherwise, the racing sport would "fade away".

Hell they are crying. They should park the car and get a real job, or make their cars go fast and get 100 mile per gallon. And should us only regular fuel, racing fuel should be outlawed.

So I guess we should all buy racing fuel at $4.40 a gallon instead of the $ 5.85 a gallon I'm paying now at the pump for regular unleaded.Wa, wa, wa.

If we can figure out a way to harness at least some of the wasted energy of cars going around and around in endless circles... we can probably apply it to the highways of the rest of America!

I am sure it is hard on the race car drivers, but I think the independent semi truck drivers, travelling salesmen, tow truck drivers, etc. have it worse.
