The populace of Ottawa has embraced this vision of Lansdowne with some vigor; it is wonderful for us as Rough Rider fans to see.

When Coun. Clive Doucet is frothing at the mouth and screaming for the International Design Contest ( a delaying tactic he and other councillors came up with, for pie in the sky plans that have no money backing them) to be reinstated, there has to be an edge for the good guys.

I do believe we have the momentum for once.

Still undefeated this season, and the only team to have a perfect record! They haven't been scored on, not even a single! And they have accomplished that without a quarterback, to boot!

Well, it's still a long road for the Ottawa Rough Riders. 2011 would be tough, given the Stadium issue, but there's always hope.

I'd like to see another Canadian city in the CFL. Ideally I would like to see 10 Canadian teams in the league and stay like this for many years.

Beautiful pics available at Lansdowne Live! of the new Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park.

It was great to see Hunt, Shenkman, Ruddy, and Greenberg all with the black helmet with the White "R" on it today.

The sacred sign. It must be an omen. :)

Looks like the formal proposal for Lansdowne Park and FCS will be brought before Ottawa Fossils...er Council.. in mid-September by the Hunt Group, who own the provisional franchise.

The proposal includes retail, commercial, and park features in an attempt to make Lansdowne a "must see" attraction in the mold of the Parliament Buildings, Rideau Canal skating rink, and the Tulip Festival.

More in 3 weeks we are told.

The CFL absolutely needs a team in Ottawa. And another team somewhere in the East. FIVE 'N FIVE to keep the CFL alive, would be my cheer.

At this point, I have to point out that, even with no quarterback or kicker, Ottawa is still undefeated this season.

I understand that this is probably not interesting to non-Ottawa fans, but the controlled implosion of the Lower Southside Stands will take place at 8 AM EDT on Sunday July 20th, 2008.

A sad day, yet a happy one, as the process to bring the Rough Riders back to Ottawa continues.

Edited for incorrect date.

Horn Chen kept the rights to the Rough Riders name, so I presume he will be asking for a few bucks to give them up.

The name will be "Rough Riders" if at all possible, according to the ownership group, and of course Jeff Hunt.

There is a design competition ongoing regarding the future of Lansdowne Park that is scheduled to end this coming February. The demolition of the Lower Deck of Southside is scheduled to begin in May, or thereabouts. The CFL has stated that it will not accept "temporary" seating for Southside, so that will not be an option.

The team hangs in the balance of what City Council decides. Since I am a believer in silver linings in clouds, the failure to launch a new team in Ottawa because of lack of commitment by City Hall will once and for all doom any further CFL forays into the Nation's Capital.

This lack of a new team in Ottawa will make certain fans of other teams very happy. No team means no expansion draft, no sharing of the team name, and no Splitting of the TSN contract money. And we Ottawa fans could move on without the CFL once and for all.

Luckily for other teams' fans, the chances of this new Ottawa team getting off the ground is no better than 50%, according to certain sources at Ottawa City Hall.

So there is an upside no matter what happens.

How about a stadium to play in?
I hear they might put up temporary stands where the stands once were.

I believe the working franchise name is "The Ottawa We Will Be Better, Honest"!
That may be shortened at some point in time, to fit on the jerseys, unless the players are REALLY big.

OTTAWA (CFL) -– The Canadian Football League has awarded a conditional Ottawa franchise to a local “dream team” with a passion for the game and a proven track record of success and service in the nation’s capital, Commissioner Mark Cohon announced today.

“We are delighted to award a franchise to Roger Greenberg, Jeff Hunt, John Ruddy and William Shenkman, on the condition they can secure an agreement with the city of Ottawa that will provide the team with access to a suitable stadium,” Cohon said today.

“We are confident that this is the dream team that can establish a thriving Ottawa franchise, one worthy of this city’s fans, its storied football past, and the Canadian Football League’s bright future.”

OTTAWA - The CFL is close to completing a deal that would award a conditional expansion franchise to a group led by Ottawa 67's owner Jeff Hunt, according to The Globe and Mail.

OTTAWA -- The Canadian Football League's efforts at returning to Ottawa for the 2008 season are dead, according to league sources.
The CFL has spent the past several months negotiating with former CFL player Bill Palmer, who represents one of three groups that expressed interest in an Ottawa franchise last summer.
But those efforts have fallen short largely because the two sides couldn't make the economics of operating a franchise work. He confirmed in April that his group had an agreement in principle with the CFL, contingent on a suitable arrangement with the city of Ottawa regarding Frank Clair Stadium. However, his group was unwilling to meet a deadline to move forward.

There will only be 8 teams next year too. They are not going to jump into putting a team in Ottawa until they are 100% sure it will work.
I guess they are thinking 'three strikes and you are out' instead of 'third time lucky'.

I can not believe there are already plans in the works to flush the team down the drain. What a disaster.
